About Us
The Lyonses Endowment Coalition began as a simple idea: that each of us has the power to “be the change that you want to see”. After serving in the Army as a military intelligence analyst and heavy equipment transporter in an active war zone, Monica and her husband, also a military veteran, returned home and began looking for ways to continue to serve. There were many opportunities - her first steps were to form a coalition with local non-profit groups to address the need of seniors in their rural community.
Our early successes included a food drive as well as a mobile COVID testing station for underserved rural Seniors. Today, the L.E.C. has expanded to provide educational enrichment programs to close the achievement gap of students in rural communities in the areas of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) while continuing to provide nutritious meals for our senior citizens.
Although our primary focus is on elementary through middle school students, we will soon begin to provide tutoring in budgeting and finance as well as preparation for college and military entrance exams to high school students. We also plan to create an intramural sports league to provide after school and summer sports programs to promote healthy living. And, in addition to providing meals for our Senior Citizens, we plan to offer recreational programs to promote healthy living. These programs will encourage exercise, mental agility games, field trips, and frequent interaction with medical and nutritional teams. Increasing their social interaction will decrease the likelihood of poor mental and physical health.
